Best Ways to Bundle Up this Winter Season
Winter can be a magical time for children, but keeping safe can sometimes be a challenge. Luckily, there are ways to ensure that you have peace of mind while your kids enjoy the outdoor wonderland. Winter doesn’t have to be drab or stressful, and these winter tips can help ease your winter worries!
- Always supervise children, and ensure ‘warm’ breaks are incorporated
- Make arrangements with the parents of your children's friends to ensure that someone is always supervising the children.
- Prepare a warm, tasty beverage and encourage your children to come inside occasionally. It is important to warm up in between playing.
- Protect exposed skin with sunscreen
- Even though it may look gloomy, those harmful UV’s may still be present.
- Wear clothing that will not only keep your child warm, but dry as well
- Use waterproof outer-clothing and incorporate thermals.
- Stay clear from clothing with 100% cotton. It may be comfortable but it is unable to wick away moisture if exposed to snow or body sweat.
- Use mittens instead of gloves for cold hands. Your fingers will produce and maintain heat better when together in the mittens.
- Don’t forget to wear a hat. Heat is rapidly lost through the head.
- Take extra precaution when crossing the road
- Due to slick roads, it may be more difficult for cars to stop. Always make sure you have ample time to cross.
- When crossing a busy road, use a bright crossing flag. Cars will be able to see you from afar, and have more time to slow down.
- When sledding, make sure the sledding area & sled are safe
- Make sure to avoid hills near roads.
- Inspect the area prior to going down the hill to avoid any unexpected jumps, rocks, or uneven terrain.
- Check the sled for any cracks or sharp, worn-down edges that could cut your child or others.
- Wear safety pads and a helmet.
- Last of all, be mindful of your surroundings and have fun!
